" ...accountability-the core of universal order"Earthquakes constitute a forewarning that on the day of reckoning, everyone shall rise to answer for deeds good and bad. And the mother earth, as it does in an earthquake [shake of lesser magnitude] shall bring forth all that might be taken as hidden, what might be taken as secret shall be laid bare. The Holy Quran explains in metaphors for all who tend to learn and take guidance, as is evident in eight Ayats of Surah ZILZAAL [99: 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8]
.
''When the Earth is shaken to its (utmost) convulsions, And the Earth throws up her burdens (from within), And the man cries (distressed) What is the matter with her? On that day it will declare its tidings: For thy Lord will have given her inspiration. On that day will men proceed in companies sorted out to be shown the Deeds that they (had done). Then shall anyone who has done an atom's weight of good see it! And anyone who has done an atom's weight of evil shall see it.'
.
The metaphoric lead of Al-Quran is a clear indication that accountability lies at the core of universal order. In the great and the final convulsion on the day of reckoning, the dead who had been buried and forgotten will be brought to life; so too the matters, the hidden motives presumed to be buried will be brought to the bar of justice. The deeds done even the most secret will be brought to the light of day.
.
The beauty of justice lies in the fact laid bare by Holy Quran--not even atom's weight of good shall remain unrewarded nor shall even an atom's weight of evil escape punishment. Earthquakes remind us that such a day has to dawn for one and all--dead or alive, and we better be prepared to face it, with all its consequences.
