Camel: the mysterious animal

Camel has been tailored by nature for desert transportation with a precision that is surprising. It constitutes a mystery beyond comprehension. The Holy Verse related to the creation of camel throws a challenge to unbelievers, who remain oblivious of the varied creative capabilities of Allah (SwT):

Do they not consider the camel, how it was created’’ (88:17)

 ‘’Do they not consider the camel, how it was created’’ (88:17) The mysteries of camel are many. It is said that existence of camel defies the standards set by evolutionists for survival of species. Camel has no natural defences in spite of its huge size, yet it has survived with lions in desert for thousands of years. It is herbivores, in structure similar to other herbivores, its natural habitat should have been the forest, however Allah (SwT) designed it to be the desert, providing the camel with all the biological features needed for life in desert and for desert transportation.

The only food camels in desert get to eat is thorns. The digestive system of camels converts the cellulose of thorn into carbohydrates, the energy ingredient of food. While as all organisms exchange vitamins with each other, in particular obtaining vitamins from plants, the camel in contrast is known to produce its own vitamins. Water molecules remain for 7-14 days in the bodies of all animals. In the camels however, water molecule preserves its inscrutable property for as many as 50 days. This natural endowment makes it ideal mode of transport for water deprived deserts.

Camel is by nature extraordinarily sensitive and submissive in spite of its huge size. The sensitive and submissive nature makes the camel amenable to human commands, providing services in desert that any other animal is not disposed to provide. Camel has a memory storage system, unlike that of any other animal. It never forgets what it sees, it maps the path that it traverses, hence serves the man better in navigating through the desert. Camels form a rich source of food—milk and meat for desert communities. Camel has enough biological features—physical and psychological for Allah (SwT) to proclaim:

Do they not consider the camel, how it was created’’
